I'm thinking about: best-practices in creative community building for mid-size cities.
In 2008 I began participating in technology focused civic engagement with the open data movement. As a organizer of Open Data London I worked with other Londoners to successfully advocate for the public release of municipal data. Our city became one of the first regions in Canada to make these data sets available to the general public.
Over the next few years I continued to work on community building initiatives including hackathons, unconferences, multi-day creative experiences and entrepreneurial projects. To support this work we created UnLondon in 2010 and in the fall of 2017 renamed as Springboard. Our mandate is grassroots, community-led economic development; removing the barriers to creative practice.
In 2017 I received a Shuttleworth Foundation Flash Grant to further research the building blocks of creative communities in mid-sized cities.
Check back here (and on my Blog) over the next few months as I begin to publish the results of my discovery.
